POSTERIOR SAGITTAL ANORECTOPLASTY – PSARP
Infants born with an ARM will require an operation to correct the anomaly. This operation is named Posterior Saggital Anorectoplasty (PSARP). It involves dividing any existing fistula, identifying the optimal location for the anus based on the existing muscles (sphincter mechanism controlling continence) and bringing the rectum through this to the skin. This operation allows for the excretion of gas and stool. The timing of surgery depends on the type of ARM and other patient specific considerations.
