HIRSCHSPRUNG’S DISEASE

COLOSTOMY IN HIRSCHSPRUNG’S DISEASE

This is an operation that involves creating an opening (orifice) in the abdominal wall and joining the large intestine with this opening (central orifice).

The colostomy is performed in order to create a pathway for the elimination of gasses and feces from the body that end up in a collection bag, until the main recovery operation (“pull-through”) is performed.

The colostomy is temporary and its closure will take place at the same time as the main “pull-through” operation which restores the continuity of the intestine, and the stool is expelled naturally from the anus.

After the colostomy creation, the nursing staff and other health professionals who collaborate with our team will give you accurate instructions for the required care.
